Heritage Hunting, Fishing and Trapping Act
Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, enacts as follows:
1 The following definitions apply in this Act.
"Commission" means the Fish and Wildlife Commission. (Commission)
"Minister" means the Minister of Natural Resources. (ministre)
2 A person has a right to hunt, fish and trap in accordance with the law.
3 A commission, to be known as the Fish and Wildlife Commission, is hereby established in recognition of the important roles hunting, fishing and trapping have played shaping New Brunswick's social, cultural and economic heritage.
4 The Commission shall be composed of such number of persons as may be appointed by the Lieutenant-Governor in Council, one of whom shall be designated by the Lieutenant-Governor in Council as the chair of the Commission.
5 The Commission shall consider and make recommendations to the Minister on the following matters:
(a) the promotion of practices that will contribute to hunting, fishing and trapping being valued by future generations;
(b) the promotion of public participation in fish and wildlife conservation programs;
(c) the promotion of youth participation in hunting, fishing, trapping and other activities related to fish and wildlife;
(d) the promotion of tourism based on hunting, fishing and other activities related to fish and wildlife;
(e) the promotion of new opportunities for hunting, fishing, trapping and other activities related to fish and wildlife; and
(f) any other matter referred to the Commission by the Minister.
6 The Minister shall annually submit a report on the activities of the Commission to the Lieutenant-Governor in Council and shall then table the report in the Legislative Assembly.
7 The Lieutenant-Governor in Council may make regulations generally for the better administration of this Act.
8 This Act comes into force on a day to be fixed by proclamation.
