City of Saint John Government Act
WHEREAS The City of Saint John prays that it be enacted as hereinafter set forth;
THEREFORE, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, enacts as follows:
1(1) The Common Council of The City of Saint John may appoint a person having suitable qualifications as chief administrative officer for the municipality of The City of Saint John who shall be known as the “City Manager”, or as may be otherwise called by the Common Council, and shall be responsible to Common Council and have all powers necessary for the administration of the affairs of the municipality of The City of Saint John.
1(2) All heads of departments and officers appointed by Common Council shall report to Common Council through the person appointed in subsection (1), including, but not to limit the generality of the foregoing, the City Solicitor, Commissioner of Finance, Treasurer, Common Clerk and any person appointed by Common Council pursuant to the provisions of the Municipalities Act.
2 An Act originally entitled An Act to provide for the Government of the City of Saint John by an Elective Commission, chapter 42 of the Acts of New Brunswick, 1912, renamed An Act to Provide for the Government of the City of Saint John, 1936, chapter 94 of the Acts of New Brunswick, 1936, and as otherwise amended, is repealed.
