The Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick is looking for an innovative and client-focused individual to join our Finance and Human Resources team. As part of our Finance and Human Resources team, you’ll play a key role in delivering essential financial services to Members of the Legislative Assembly, the Offices of the Legislative Assembly, and Legislative Officers. The Director of Finance reports to the Executive Director of Finance and Human Resources in the Office of the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing leadership and performance management support to the finance team
  • Liaising with elected officials, Legislative Officers, Government departments and employees at all levels of the organization
  • Leading the continuing implementation of the Province’s Enterprise Risk Management system and seeking to improve current processes and reporting practices related to the new system
  • Overseeing the timely and accurate payment and monitoring of Members’ expenses and allowances
  • Assisting in developing, planning and coordinating the annual budget (Main Estimates) and capital budget of the Legislative Assembly
  • Working alongside the Executive Director to prepare monthly and quarterly interim budget reports as well as providing budget monitoring and forecasting support to office managers throughout the year
  • Reviewing quarterly and year-end accountability and disclosure reports to be published online and through Public Accounts
  • Overseeing financial year-end processes
  • Ensuring the effectiveness of internal controls and compliance with legislation, policies and procedures

 
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
  • Minimum five (5) years of progressive work experience in a financial/business environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills

Subject to the response to this competition, an equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered, or the required years of experience may be increased.

Written and spoken competence in English and spoken competence in French is required. Please state your language capability in your application.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS: Preference may be given to candidates who demonstrate one or more of the following asset qualifications: 

  • Experience with Oracle Fusion and Oracle EPM
  • Experience with the Procurement Act

Work Environment:

Office location: Jewett House, 96 Secretary Lane, Fredericton, NB

Standard hours of work: Monday to Friday, 8:15 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Salary: $94,146 to $126,594 annually, depending on education and experience.
